tree museum, the hagueAt the request of the Ontwikkelingscombinatie Wateringse Veld, Stroom The Hague conceived an art plan for the Wateringse Veld, a new suburb (then still under development). herman de vries designed a 'Tree Museum' which is growing slowly. In close collaboration with the designers of public space herman de vries designed a 'tree museum'. The tree museum and an ecological connection zone were officially opened in 2008 and the project was rounded up on September 29, 2011.

The zoning plans for Wateringse Veld were drawn up 15 years ago and call for a strong relationship between art and the public space. Stroom Den Haag and the Ontwikkelingscombinatie Wateringse Veld worked together to draw up the conditions for the project. Artists then joined forces with urban developers and landscape architects. herman de vries expounded this 'green' theme into the tree museum Wateringse Veld.

The tree museum is the largest art project in Wateringse Veld. It is a variation on the old arboretum, a park where all sorts of special and ordinary specimens are planted. The idea here is to plant as many different species of trees in the neighbourhood as possible. Nearly every street has its own tree. This means that there are approximately 400 species of trees in Wateringse Veld. This huge assortment is unique in the Netherlands. de vries aims to restore nature to the lives of city residents.
