Er was geen mens, geen levend wezen, / Geen beweging dan van water / In eindeloze poelen en hete, natte wind. / Er was geen tijd, er was alleen't bestaan, / Diep, zwart, onwetend, van wat bestond. / Ergens aan een strand in de [g]schroeiende zon, / Door niets verwacht, door niets gemerkt, / Begon het eenzaam en hoe lang nog vruchteloos / Bewegen in zichzelf van't eerste leven / [Dat werd tot plant en dier en mens].
