Hartmut Geerken (1939) studied oriental languages, philosophy, philology, and comparative theosophy. As an associated professor of Goethe-Institut he worked in Cairo (1966-72), Kabul (1972-79), Athens (1979-83), Munich (1984-92). He is the author of about forty books of poetry and prose. In his productions he combines the elements of experimental poetry, ethno-music and jazz, emphasising free vocal and use of non-traditional musical instruments. Hartmut Geerken lives and works in Herrsching.
